The children gathered around to listen to the officer give a brief history of the building that we were in, which houses both the gallery and the Central Fire Station. The building was built in 1908 and has been declared a national monument.

The children were then showed the very first horse drawn steam fire engine that was used in Singapore, the Merryweather Steam Fire Engine. This steam engine ran on burning coals and was able to raise pressure quickly to produce powerful jets of water.
The second model of fire engine showed old videos of firefighters going about their daily work.
The children had the opportunity to experience being inside a fire engine.
The children enjoyed sitting inside the fire engine and watching old videos of fire fighting in the past.
The children had fun trying on the firefighter's uniform and pretending to be one.
The children tried 'putting out' a fire using a water hose.

The children were introduced to various roles within the Singapore Civil Defense team such as firefighters, paramedics and disaster and rescue team.
At the end of the interactive gallery, the children did crayon shadings of old fire engine images.
