The children arrived at Butterfly Lodge at Oh’ Farms where they were welcomed by Mr. Jeff. He talked to them about the life cycle of a butterfly (egg-caterpillar-chrysalis-butterfly) and the important role they play as one of nature’s most hardworking pollinators. Mr. Jeff also discussed about the difference between a chrysalis and a cocoon. A moth makes a cocoon, which is wrapped in a silk covering while a butterfly makes a chrysalis, which is hard and smooth. After the talk, the group was split into two. One group visited the enclosure where they were able to observe the butterflies in a landscaped garden environment while the other group stayed with Mr. Jonathan who showed them fascinating insects.
Mr. Jonathan showed the children a caterpillar of a Tawny Coster.
